Dr. David Fairchild, Director of bands

Dr. David Fairchild is a highly regarded teacher, conductor and performer in the Metropolitan Atlanta area. A native of Atlanta and graduate of Lakeside High School, David received a Bachelors in instrumental music education from Georgia State University and a Masters and Doctorate in Music Education from the University of Georgia. He has served as the Director of Bands for his alma mater, Lakeside High School, since 2003.

Dr. Fairchild recently retired from the Air National Guard Band of the South stationed at McGhee-Tyson Air Force Base in Knoxville, TN. His twenty years of military service has taken him around the country, including Alaska, to perform in concert band, jazz band, and wind ensembles for thousands of Americans.

Dr. Fairchild is co-founder and co-director, along with his mother Kay Fairchild, of the Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble and Atlanta Trumpet Festival. The ATE is one of the Southeast's premier trumpet ensembles, and the Atlanta Trumpet Festival has become one of the largest festivals of its kind in the country.

Dr. Fairchild's background in trombone performance, education, and conducting has afforded him many interesting opportunities in his life so far. He has performed around the U.S. and the world, including throughout Taiwan, China and Japan; studied under Dr. Thomas Gibson, Rich Mata, Scott Hartman, and Michael Moore; and mentored countless students, many of whom have gone on to their own musical careers.

David lives in Tucker with his wife Ginny, a professional violinist with The Atlanta Opera, three children, two cats, and a dog.  He is an avid runner, and, in what little spare time he can carve out, enjoys working on his favorite project--a 1994 Mazda Miata.
