Gold Band (Beginning Band)

The Lakeside Gold Band is the newest ensemble in the Lakeside Performing arts curriculum, having been redesigned in 2022 to be a true beginning band class. Students in this course have had some or no training on a musical instrument or want to take a second band class to learn a new instrument. A wide variety of grade levels are in this class, and instruments are provided for students who do not have their own. 

Instruments taught in this class are Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone and Tuba, with students who wish to move to Saxophone, Oboe, French Horn and Euphonium (Baritone) getting the option to do so in January. This group participates in the Holiday Pops Concert, Large Group Performance Evaluation Concert, and the Spring Concert. 

This course emphasizes playing fundamentals like tone, rhythm, flexibility and general musicianship to prepare students to move on to Intermediate Band the next year. There is an emphasis both on individual performance and group performance in this class, with a goal of being able to perform one of the musical selections from the Purple Band’s Fall Concert program in their Spring concert.
