Purple Band (Intermediate Band)

The Lakeside Purple Band is one of two junior ensembles in the Lakeside Band program. This course is designed for entering freshmen who completed a middle school band program and students who have completed a year of beginning band at Lakeside. In addition to performing at the Fall and Spring Concerts, The Holiday Pops Concert, and the Large Group Performance Evaluation Concert, the curriculum in this class is designed to teach students about more advanced musical concepts, like beginning music theory, music notation, and the performing of musical styles. Because of this, the Purple Band is a prerequisite for Advanced and Mastery Bands, and a necessary step for all band students. The musical choices in this group center around the core concepts of sight reading in cut time and compound time, and being able to perform at least 8 major scales on their instrument.
